Business Administration

AI, like any technology, is about creating value for the organisation — this module teaches you how to determine that value.

Why this module

Why this matters

AI, like any technology, is about creating value for the organisation. So before we deploy and build AI solutions, we need to know what that value is. What does the organisation want to achieve? Where must and where does the organisation want to invest? Those questions have to be answered first.

Here you lay the business foundation for the entire programme: from the very first year you work on the knowledge and skills you need for an advisory, coordinating or leadership role in the application of AI.

What AI changes

How this subject itself is changing

A business case used to reckon with an investment up front and a saving afterwards. AI does not fit that template: costs run on per use and rise when it succeeds, and the benefits sit in speed and quality — precisely the things that add up badly.

And the strategic question tips over. No longer: which tasks do we automate first? But: which work do we deliberately keep human, because it calls for contact, judgement or accountability — and what is that work worth to us? That is a business question, not a technical one.

Content

What you will learn

Application

Directly in your own practice

You conclude the theme with a professional product about a real situation in your own work — which you discuss in an assessment with the lecturer.

Healthcare institution

A team leader substantiates the value a triage assistant delivers: less waiting time, safer referrals.

Manufacturing company

A work planner answers the investment question around AI-supported quoting for the board.

Municipality

A policy officer weighs the benefits and risks of a citizen-enquiry chatbot and advises on whether or not to start.

How you work

Learning alongside your job

You take this module the way you take the whole programme: classes every other week on Friday and Saturday, with a study load of 15–20 hours per week, of which 10–15 hours are self-study. The teaching is a mix of classroom lessons, practice-based learning, blended learning and working groups or study teams — taught by lecturers who practise the profession themselves every day.

You conclude each theme with a professional product or a technical solution based on a real situation in your own work, which you discuss in an assessment with the lecturer. This way your portfolio grows with real work — and your employer benefits directly.

The format is not new: the teaching approach and the AI modules have been running for three years at the AI Proeflokaal — with business, with government, and across part-time modules and minors. What you meet in class here has already been worn in elsewhere.

After this module you deliver a professional product: a well-founded value proposal for AI in your own organisation.
