How do you learn at Applied AI?

In this programme, AI is not only the end goal — it is also the means by which you learn. In every class you work with AI: bots that explain, give feedback, practise with you and think along with you. That's how you build more skills, faster.

AI as the end goal

You are trained to conceive, build and manage AI solutions: from bots and agent teams to data management and responsible deployment in your organisation. That is what the programme works towards — an accredited professional bachelor's degree in Applied AI.

AI as a learning tool

But you don't wait four years to use AI: from the very first class you use AI to learn for yourself. Explanations at your level, practice without waiting for a lecturer, feedback at the moment you are ready for it. As a result, you build skills faster and more broadly.

Orientation and diagnosis

Where do you stand at the start of a block — and what are you still missing?

Intake bots

Gauge your prior knowledge at the start of a block and surface misconceptions, so both you and your lecturer know where to begin.

Boundary: gives no grade; the outcome is formative and does not count towards assessment.

Explanation and understanding

Getting the material clear — at your level, in your language, whenever it suits you.

Course bots

The general help desk for a course: structure, materials, way of working — and referral to the right lecturer.

Boundary: makes no statements about grades, assessments or personal circumstances.

Theory bots

Explain a subject concept at several levels: intuition, formal definition, example and counter-example.

Boundary: explains concepts, but does not work out assignments or exam questions — the application stays yours.

Language bots

Rephrase the material into plain Dutch (B1/NT2) or give multilingual explanations.

Boundary: simplifies the language, never the subject matter; technical terms stay and get explained.

Practice

Repetition is free. What used to be two attempts is now twenty.

Socratic bots

Let you reach the insight yourself through targeted follow-up questions rather than explanation.

Boundary: never gives the answer, not even under pressure or insistence. Asks one question at a time.

Case bots

Take you through a case step by step, with hints that only escalate once you are genuinely stuck.

Boundary: at most three hints per case; after that, back to the lecturer.

Role-play bots

Let you practise a professional conversation by playing the client, patient or commissioner themselves.

Boundary: stays in role and only steps out on the explicit signal "stop role-play".

Retrieval bots

A short daily retrieval exercise on the block material, spread across earlier weeks (spaced retrieval).

Boundary: shows the answer only after an attempt; "I don't know" counts as an attempt.

Debate bots

Sharpen your position by consistently defending the opposite one.

Boundary: takes no moral position of its own and marks the opposing stance explicitly as an assumed role.

Feedback on your work

Feedback before you hand in, not after — while you can still do something with it. These bots read your submitted file.

Feedforward bots

Point out on a draft what can be better in the next version, before you submit.

Boundary: gives no grade and no grade prediction, and does not rewrite your work.

Rubric bots

Criterion-based feedback per rubric criterion, evidenced from your own work.

Boundary: argues per criterion, but gives no final grade and no overall verdict.

Peer review bots

Teach you to give feedback by discussing your review of someone else's work with you.

Boundary: assesses the quality of your review, never your fellow student's underlying work.

Writing bots

Improve your academic writing: structure, line of argument, citation, APA.

Boundary: rewrites no text; points at passages and asks follow-up questions.

Code review bots

Discuss your programming submission on correctness, readability, structure and edge cases.

Boundary: delivers no working code; points out where the problem is and what kind it is.

Assessment and accountability

Knowing the exam format before it counts — and being able to defend your own choices.

Assessment bots

Practise with questions at the level and in the format of the real exam.

Boundary: practice questions are not real exam questions; they say nothing about whether you will pass.

Oral exam bots

Simulate an oral exam or criterion-based interview, so the question format and pace become familiar.

Boundary: practice mode; the outcome is never an official result.

Defence bots

Let you defend your own product by probing your choices and weak spots.

Boundary: probes for ownership, but never accuses you of fraud or AI use.

Reflection and guidance

Around the work itself: your portfolio, your placement, your project group.

Reflection bots

Get a reflection going along STARR or Kolb lines and help you evidence it for your portfolio.

Boundary: does not write the reflection and fills in no experiences, motives or feelings for you.

Internship bots

Sharpen your placement assignment and prepare the conversation with your placement supervisor.

Boundary: replaces no placement supervisor; refers on in case of conflict or unsafe situations.

Team bots

Help your project group with role division, working agreements, ceremonies and early conflict.

Boundary: takes no side in a conflict and makes no statement about who is right.
