The capstone: independently investigating and solving an AI problem at HBO bachelor's level.
The graduation project is the proof of competence: you demonstrate that you can independently investigate a real-world problem, deliver a solution and justify every choice.
You graduate within your own profile — Gen AI Makers or AI Classic Makers — and preferably on a problem from your own organisation, so that your graduation project delivers direct value to your employer.
A graduation project used to take months: trawling the literature, building, writing. Those months have become weeks. A model hands you an outline, a prototype and a readable chapter — which is precisely why the end product on its own no longer proves anything about you.
What it does prove is what the machine cannot take over: the defence. Why this question, this method, this trade-off — and why you set the model's suggestion aside at this particular point. That is what your final assessment is about.
You carry out your graduation research in your own organisation or for a client — supervised by lecturers from professional practice.
Research into and implementation of an agent solution, including impact measurement and justification.
Research into and implementation of a predictive or analytical solution, including validation.
A successfully defended graduation project — and a recognised HBO bachelor's degree.
You take this module the way you take the whole programme: classes every other week on Friday and Saturday, with a study load of 15–20 hours per week, of which 10–15 hours are self-study. The teaching is a mix of classroom lessons, practice-based learning, blended learning and working groups or study teams — taught by lecturers who practise the profession themselves every day.
You conclude each theme with a professional product or a technical solution based on a real situation in your own work, which you discuss in an assessment with the lecturer. This way your portfolio grows with real work — and your employer benefits directly.
The format is not new: the teaching approach and the AI modules have been running for three years at the AI Proeflokaal — with business, with government, and across part-time modules and minors. What you meet in class here has already been worn in elsewhere.
After graduating you hold the BSc title and are a fully-fledged conversation partner on the responsible adoption of AI.
Email or call the programme — we're happy to help you think it through.
